Simulated Ink Painting

If you think this image looks familiar, that's because it's created from Marsha's recent post Snowy South Park. When I saw her original photo, I thought it was beautiful and it struck me that it could be a good candidate for some manipulation to make it look like an ink painting. With her kind permission, I tried exploring this idea and this is what I ended up with.

While I was at it, I was reminded of the Porcelain Challenge that Craig put out and wondered what this image would look like in blue. My curiosity led me to create the following variant. (Obviously, I am not going to submit this for the challenge since it is not my photo. I only did it as an experiment for fun.)

The same image further manipulated with Affinity Photo to simulate a blue ink painting on porcelain.

Thanks, Marsha and Craig and others, for your inspiration and giving me an excuse to take a break from my busyness to have a bit of fun.

It may just be my eye but the blue image seems to have more depth with distance receding while the black seems very one dimensional.

You are quite observant. Before I applied the blue colour in Affinity Photo, I also used the clarity filter to enhance the details a bit. This may explain the subtle difference you noticed. Good eye!

Great edit! When I saw it, i thought it was a very good candidate for the porcelain challenge! But you were right. Anyway, great edit again!

Benny, I truly don't know which I like best. The blue makes the image stand out especially around the mountain area and the black and white brings calm. Well done. Glad you were inspired to edit smile

I think I prefer the black and white. The blue looks a bit unnatural unless it is printed on a porcelain tile and adorned with some nice borders (sounds Portuguese). I enjoyed the editing break. I hope I will have more time doing it when I retire and still have good enough eyesight for that.smile

Oh, wow, Benny that is very cool! Think in this case I prefer the first one. This process gives it a simple, almost minimalist mood. Always looking for interesting takes and ideas in post-processing. Thanks for your time and effort!

Thank you, Marsha! I love manipulating images. This is only for fun, but your original is still the most gratifying to look at. Color is needed to capture and express the full beauty of God's creation.

Indeed. But in many ways the beauty of God’s creation is in the heart, not the eye. That’s where it is limitless. That’s why two photographers can see the same scene, yet come up with two very different interpretations that both express beauty. Just my take 😊 Thanks again, Benny, for this post.
