Lately, a lot of people have been posting beautiful pictures of icicles, thanks in part to the cold weather that many of us have been experiencing. I never thought I would get to do the same, not because it's not cold enough here, but because we are still under a stay-at-home order and I don't have the time or opportunity to leave my condo to go for a photowalk. Well, as it turned out, I didn't have to go outside to be able to capture some images of icicles.
Yesterday late afternoon, when I went to the window in my study to close the blinds, I looked out the window and saw a bunch of icicles hanging from the roof not too far from the window. (My condo unit is on the top floor.) I knew that was my chance, so I quickly grabbed the camera and clicked away. I had to shoot through the window glass which wasn't clean at all, but the results turned out okay. I just needed to position the camera up against the glass to minimize the effect of the dirt on the image quality.
I have selected three of my favourite images from my icicle shoot to share with you. This is the first time I have photographed icicles, and I am pleasantly surprised.
Today was a sunny day, and I was going to take some more pictures of the icicles during the day under the bright sunlight. When I looked out the window in the afternoon, I found that all the icicles had disappeared already. The temperature was still below freezing, but the sun had melted all of the ice on the roof. I'm glad I seized the opportunity to capture some images yesterday.
