The Lacaille 8760 Affair:: Day 79

Today's theme (every first Monday of the month) is Classroom Capers.

While I couldn't really fit anything that I do on a daily basis into this category (other than the fact that i work ON A CAMPUS lol) I decided to share with you all the magic of water.

Growing towels make me feel like a kid again…even though I don't distinctly remember playing with them when I was young, it's just that feeling that you get while watching them unfurl.

The story behind this begins two Christmas' ago when my mother put a growing lizard in Nick's stocking. It was meant to be a gag but Nick loved the darn thing and for months to come I would find this stupid thing in various places, lurking in my apartment. Basically if you aren't familiar with this concept, you have a lizard made of weird material, you put it in water for a night and the next day it's HUMUNGOUS from all the water that it's soaked up.

So in an effort to keep the joke going, my mother bought him some growing towels, instead of a lizard, this year for his stocking. Then while they were here last week, she found this Fiona towel and got it for me. I thought it was pretty funny so I “grew” it and took this picture.

Maybe next month I'll actually get out into the ‘field’ and take some REAL classroom caper shots.

Until then…

This is the story of Princess Fiona and the Growing Towel.

Cool shot.
I have bought some growing sponges for my students before. THey looked like a pill, then grew into huge dinosaur sponges. You would think that 5th graders wouldn't dig it, but they got totally psyched about it. I suppose its a universally loved gift.
You are a princess, aren't you?

LOVE the growing towels. I used to stock up on them at the Dollar store and use them as bribes to get my kids in the bath:)

Cute post!

*laughs* Such a funny story, I remember having one of those growing frogs at my Kindergarten... it grew about double the size of what it was supposed to! But then again, we did leave it submerged for a few days, lol :P

Oh, I pick those up at the dollar store for my granddaughters. They LOVE them!! Whenever I send a box of goodies, I try to throw a couple in there. They love using Little Mermaid washcloths or towels.
