i like this discussion and I like the photograph.I wish debates like this would start of with every post, instead of going 'oh how lovely' and blah blah

wrong place to debate this, because definitely i respect victorija for all the stuff she does with her pictures, BUT... this one is just not up to her usual level. to me it looks like the result of too much playing around with photoshop. and it's not the picture that made me think or comment, it was the completely meaningless short comments BEFORE mine, which just praised something i BET the commenters didn't understand.

i know, everyone will hate me now because i say something like that (and yeah, how can i know, i'm just enyious that i don't understand it, bla bla bla... but maybe you just take a deep breath now and give it a thought - like davids said, victorija gets top marks for getting people thinking.

and pollak, thanks for your clarification that photography is art. by (your) definition. i see pictures every day that try to express too much... instead of, for example, being just a decent picture of a good breakfast or a fucking apple.

how come you all see to be so insisting on making "art"? are you bored with just being able to handle a camera?

apologies, again, victorija, for getting this discussion started on your blog. it actually belongs into the forum.

Excellent... it doesn't matter what it's "about"... top marks for getting people thinking. That's what matters :)

FOR EIDEEA : well, i see pictures everyday that don't express anything still everybody praises them as "Genius"...shit. at least this picture tries to say something, tries to give you an emotion, to think about something, to make your imagination fly, to open up!!! this is art about, photography , to see something in the world with your inside and then give it back to the world, within your unique way of expressing. photography is not about shooting your breakfast or your fucking apples. it's so much more. a photo is your inside eye. through a photo you watch the world or if youre really really a "genius" you create one!

I think that she wants to convey the following: is bookish knowledge all that's there to be known? Perhaps not, but at least, we know when we are finished with what bookish knowledge there is to be considered and acquired. Photoshopping might be a resource to convey the artificial, because rationalized, side of knowledge acquired second hand, that is through books and academic channels.
Am I right? Was it nonsense?

By the way, did you pile all those books upon your head or did you just lie on your side? It looks as though you were training for the scholarly catwalk.

I usually don't really like very much post processing but there, I fins that it makes sense...and therefore I have nothing against it.
Furthermore, you look very cute in this pic (sorry for my straightforwardness).

before i start praising this with "amazing shot", "impressive" or "wow", i'd rather like to understand what this odd picture is about.

i know you like to play around with your stuff, you're photoshopping yourself into delirium sometimes... and i know i'm usually pretty dumb when it comes to art... but i really, really don't know what you're trying to say here.

double arm, books, aged coloring, eerie look... it just doesn't click with me. sorry...
