Ice Palace

Day 1

In 2013 there was an ice storm. First it began to rain. Which immediately froze. 5 days before Christmas. My mother lost power, were supposed to all go there. Last minute everyone came to my house and we ordered pizza. Lol.

This was a large bush, buzzing with bees all summer busy with bees all summer.

Day 3

More rain, more ice. Our poor birch tree couldn't take anymore. Weeping like a great feather plume.

This is not upside down, this one really couldn't take it. We lost half the tree. Washington Hawthrone, I think.

Day 4

It began to snow. :O

And snow.

That branch lying on the ground I normally could walk under. That's the weight of the ice.

Hershey, our Lab. She loved the snow. (though she doesn't look like it....)

Day 5

After snowing all night, we got sun! Glorious sun, but very cold. Christmas Eve. I didn't think the birch would come back, but it did. When it all melted it sprang right back up like nothing ever happened.

Forgot to prune the roses...

We actually got about an inch of ice before the snow.

Up the hill down the street, crystal trees.

And then it snowed a lot.

And got really cold.....

Great closeups -  in Charlotte, after Hurricane Hugo in '88, we had two winters of brutal ice storms. Beautiful, but deadly.

A good week for wine, too. The kind of weather to stay home!

Ice storms are nasty in their destructive power and the dangerous conditions they bring, but they also create a lot of beautiful scenes. These are nice captures. I think we were hit by the same ice storm in Ontario.

Yes nasty but beautiful. I'm in southwest Michigan, in the US, so it would make sense if you got the same storm. :)
