The Smallest

There is a reason I love summertime, maybe I should say there are several, several, reasons I love summertime. One of those reasons is being able to be outside and enjoying nature. This year I was determined to bring some of that beauty into my backyard and capture them in a photo or two. I planted some flowers that I thought would bring the butterflies and posted an ornamental water reservoir, so the birds would have a place to dip in, and finally hung a red hummingbird feeder in hopes to see some hummingbirds. I did get to see some butterflies, one huge one never settled down for me to take its photo and I was able to take a photo or two of a cardinal. The hummingbird was a tough one. They are so small and so quick that one really needs to sit patiently for sometime before even spotting them and then when they are spotted they are extremely quick to fly away.

Yesterday, I got lucky! The hummingbird came to the feeder several times and I was determined to capture its picture. Camera in hand, and continuous mode on, I sat. Determination pays off :)

Oh, my gosh, Camellia, I love these little guys!!!  I saw them for the first time when we lived in AZ.  I hung the same red feeder in our yard and was completely in awe of them.  Our neighbor brought over a feather - yes, we almost needed magnifying glass! - and I still have it in a zip lock bag.  Just incredible captures!!  Thanks so much for sharing. - Beth
