Testing the Lens

by Camellia April. 29, 2018 599 views

Took the Sigma 150 macro lens for a spin today in order to figure out what f stop works and how to get the focus aligned. The lens has a lot of potential but the one thing that I am not liking is the fact that it's not quick on auto focus. I know everyone says do manual focus and manual focus is great when you have perfect eyesight, sadly I don't. But here are some shots from today. Feel free to criticize and make any comments you like. Btw And I Saw I ended up at the park and they had tons of flowers, the kind you like :)

A new kind of flower...hope someone knows what they are called :)

Looks like your f-stop research is paying off, in spades!!!
These are wonderful, with razor-sharp tight focus on main subjects, with elegant colorful bokeh!!!
Bravo!!!

Thanks Jay. I feel a little better about this lens. For a while I was thinking that I'd wasted my money. The trick is what it will do with flying/moving bugs :)

It's been my experience that each individual lens has it's own peculiar and unique set of characteristics, which only emerge after extensive experimentation with camera settings, ambient and artificial light sources, etc, etc, etc.....so I'd say forego passing judgement too quickly.........right???

Beautiful "lens testing victims". This lens seems to be a winner, but think about yourself too: a good lens is only as good as the photographer, who is using it. Brilliant shots!
#15 - it's called Lady's slipper (orchid). Sometimes the orchids let drop them - you should ask ANDI for advice!

Thank you Sigrid. I know nothing about orchids, except that they are beautiful flowers that I can not grow. Fortunately, we have a small botanical garden here that grows them and allows people to take photos.  That is such a fitting name for #15 it definitely is a beautiful orchid. I wonder how many of these orchids ANDI has grown ;)

Very nice...to my not perfect eyes, it appears that whatever the camera you used, produced very vibrant colours. Having no knowledge of photography I dont know if its the equipment, or operator. I suspect its a compatible combination of both. Again nice work.

Thank you Sydney. I did have a good time especially since the weather has finally turned and being outside is a pleasure.
