Manual Mode

by Camellia Staab October. 03, 2018 260 views

I've been in manual mode forever so that was an easy decision, as far as capturing a photo for today's topic. But what wasn't easy to decide on was whether to have this photo in monochrome or color. I decided to post both...you decide.

I think they both work well but if you forced me to choose, I’d go with monochrome. But as they say, “to each his own.”

I won't force you to choose Shane, cause I can't force myself either. I've been playing with this photo on and off for the last two days...putting emphasis here and putting emphasis there with colors and mono. I don't know what it is but I can choose one over the other. Thanks for the feed back :)

I like both. Love the colors of #1 & the crisp details revealed in the mono version....

Thanks Jay. I like them both. I am coming to the conclusion that I like them both because each in their own way tell a different story or do they? ;)

That's me Jay and to be honest I did not recognize myself initially because I was expecting to see the camera to my eye and then I remembered that I was trying to be sneaky by holding the camera to my chest and taking the pic so that I would not "disturb" them :)

You were so sneaky you even "snuck" up on yourself, in that case....(((GRIN)))

Ciao, mi piace di più in BW , racconta di più la scena che volevi fermare, anche se non capisco perché quella in BW è leggermente croppata il naso del cane e la vetrina a DX. Comunque bello scatto!!

Grazie Enrico. Non  so perche e croppato in quel  modo. Qualcosa che ho fatto di sbagliato :(

I love the colorful friendly moment, on the other hand the monochrome tells another story. It's hard to decide ... I bet a jury of professional photographers would vote for monochrome and a art director of an journal or a life style book would chose the color version (the coffee shop would love to have the color version as wallpaper!).

It is funny the number of people who are divided. I posted this on facebook and it was amazing to see the reactions.....just shows that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Exactly, but there is also this gender gap.

For me the monochrome. It removes the distraction of the color and leaves the lines and soul  of the photo. That is just my personal preference.

I appreciate the feedback. So following a friends suggestion on fb working on the monochrome some more, but I really can't make the decision. In the past I've been using mono for when doing candid poses, but for some reason this one looks to in color as well.....who knows why :)

It really does work in both formats . I think it would come to to the feeling you want to covey . I dont know if this makes sense or not. To me even though it is the same image I get two different feelings looking at them.

The are both very nice. I especially like the monochrome. It has great contrast and a whole different feeling.

For me color. It has a more lively and cheerfully atmosphere.

And that is how I feel about colored photography versus black and white. Black and white always seems a tad depressing but yet I can't seem to make a decision on this one.

Definitely monochrome. But don't ask me why smile

I am starting to wonder if I should look at all the responses I have gotten from here and fb and see if the separation has to do with gender? Thanks for the feedback :)

It could well be. You can start a sociological study smile

Monochrome. It is hard to decide when both are sharp pictures. Monochrome gives that dated look.

As I said it was and still is a hard decision. Thanks for the feedback George :)
