Melbourne's most famous market, open since 1878, is called Queen Victoria Market. Presently, it is one of the largest markets in the world covering 17 acres of land at the edge of the city's Central Business District. Because of its vastness and the large number of retailers, including a deli which carries an abundance of local and imported cheeses, a selections of deli meats and salted fish, fresh olives, spreads and loads of different and surprising delights, as well as several food courts, clothing stalls, and of course Australian souvenirs, it has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in the State of Victoria. Every year around 10 million visitors enter this 140 year old open air market to experience its charm.
