Cheese Is Our Friend

The other day, a friend on Photoblog, who shall remain nameless, mentioned some names of cheeses in their blog.

Me, being a turophile, also a word my friend taught me (had to look it up), decided to look for such named cheeses; one in particular.

Lucky me, the cheese fancier, found the said named cheese.

One problem.....cheese not found locally BUT could be mail ordered.

So, naturally, I mail ordered.

One catch!

Order the said named cheese and pay an exuberant amount of money for shipping.

OR

buy enough cheeses to get FREE shipping.

Can you guess which I did?

Actually there is one cheese missing from the above photo....

Danish Fontina

Somehow he was still in the fridge when I took the photo.

Therefore, the Dane had the benefit of having a solo pose.

I have opened two of the cheeses so far.

I ate half of the Appenzeller yesterday and I am in love!

It is the relative of the Swiss cheeses, keeping in mind, it is originally made in the Swiss mountainous canton of Appenzell near the Austrian border.

It is semi hard, has a nutty flavor, and yet oh so smooth.

I opened up the Buttermilk Blue for lunch today, and if you like Blue you will love this one.

Not overpowering, a melt in your mouth, soft creamy cheese.

And the other cheeses?

Well..... they are awaiting my palate.😋

Appenzeller! A big banner with a grandpa and his grandson enjoying the cheese amidst the Alpine peaks is hanging next to our local train station. Will go to the supermarket to buy some this week. 😁

I've had the Rembrandt Gouda and I love it. My favorite though, and I do love most cheeses, is Manchego. All. Day. Long.

Manchego has become very popular in recent times, around here. Can't say it my most favorite cheese. If I were to really commit myself to one cheese, I'd say Danish Havarti is my go to, although I must add that after eating the Appenzeller, it could easily become my favorite. Maybe it is a good thing I can't find it in this town, otherwise I'd be eating it all the time smile

Now you have to try some Portuguese cheese too. With a glass of red wine on the side 🧀🍷

"queijo da serra da estrela", "queijo de azeitão", "queijo de serpa", "queijo de nisa". Not brand names, but names of cheese of a certain area of Portugal. They are incredibly good.

That blue is really good. Never had one that was made with buttermilk. Really smooth.

Love cheese, and we have a lot of them. Many of ours famous beers have their own cheese .

I believe cheese should be on top of the food chain.

OK, just so there is no misunderstanding here, I liked this post, but I do not like cheese. Every time I buy a sub or a burger, I have to say, "No cheese!" Every time people sprinkle Parmesan cheese on their pasta, I have to pinch my nose or run away. But I am the only one in the family who is missing the cheese gene. My daughter loves cheese, even her dog Alfie (my "granddaughter"). It's hard being the odd one. 😑

I'll go along with the no cheese on burgers. But My Goodness!! No cheese on pasta??? How can that be???? Quite frankly, you are the first person I have ever met that does not like any type of cheese. Obviously you have a very sensitive nose smile.  I'll make sure when you visit my house not to put out any cheese smile

There is one type of cheese I can tolerate — Philadelphia cream cheese. That's about it.
