Mr. Lincoln's Marble

by Steve Dworetsky May. 11, 2011 2579 views

The marble for the Lincoln Memorial comes from a quarry above a town called Marble in Colorado. Several years ago, I drove thru Marble and visited the quarry. The creamy white marble was cut out of the mountain, and put on railroad cars and hauled out alongside the Crystal River. The white marble fell and was thrown off the train along the route and can still be seen near the tracks, or in the River. I “bought” this piece of fallen marble, and just recently decided to place it in this position in my yard.
