Sri Lanka is known for beautiful beaches located in southern and northern coasts of the island. Being a small island, all the destinations are accessible within few hours (even with crazy traffic that makes your average speed 40km/h). My friend and I decided to do a one last photo shoot in 2015. So all of these photos were taken during the last sunset of 2015.
One of the first names given to Sri Lanka is Thambapanni (Sanskrit). It means the color of copper. This is because when the first king landed on the beaches of Sri Lanka, it looked as if it has copper sand (the color you see in the photo above ). It is said that when the people of the ship touched the ground their hands became bronze color due to this sand. You might have heard the Greek version of this name "Taprobane" being used to refer to Sri Lanka.
There are lots of tourists on the southern coast of Sri Lanka due to these wonderful beaches. Above shots were taken in the coastline leading up to the city of Galle. After the shoot, we went to Galle to take some dinner. It is a nice town (extremely sunny if you go during the day, but I guess tourists don't mind that) with lots of remnants from the dutch era.
I hope you enjoyed this post and decide to visit Sri Lanka one day (be prepared for 30C weather and some traffic!). I am part telling my photo story and part testing the new updates to the PhotoBlog editor. If you enjoyed this series or had any trouble posting after Dec 7th update, please leave a comment below.
