Day trip to southern coast of Sri Lanka

by Ram Ya December. 08, 2016 2686 views

Sri Lanka is known for beautiful beaches located in southern and northern coasts of the island. Being a small island, all the destinations are accessible within few hours (even with crazy traffic that makes your average speed 40km/h). My friend and I decided to do a one last photo shoot in 2015. So all of these photos were taken during the last sunset of 2015.

Sri Lanka is known for bronze beaches!

One of the first names given to Sri Lanka is Thambapanni (Sanskrit). It means the color of copper. This is because when the first king landed on the beaches of Sri Lanka, it looked as if it has copper sand (the color you see in the photo above ). It is said that when the people of the ship touched the ground their hands became bronze color due to this sand. You might have heard the Greek version of this name "Taprobane" being used to refer to Sri Lanka.

Even the locals stop to admire the show

Beach is a paradise for the kids who gather here after school.

I couldn't resist the opportunity of this colorful background

I think they found what they were looking for.

There are lots of tourists on the southern coast of Sri Lanka due to these wonderful beaches. Above shots were taken in the coastline leading up to the city of Galle. After the shoot, we went to Galle to take some dinner. It is a nice town (extremely sunny if you go during the day, but I guess tourists don't mind that) with lots of remnants from the dutch era.

I hope you enjoyed this post and decide to visit Sri Lanka one day (be prepared for 30C weather and some traffic!). I am part telling my photo story and part testing the new updates to the PhotoBlog editor. If you enjoyed this series or had any trouble posting after Dec 7th update, please leave a comment below.

These are wonderful - I love the vivid colours. The sense of movement in no.4 is particularly effective.

Thank you, Helen. I was really amazed by the vivid colors of the sunset. The mode was really laid back and I think photos reflect this. Thanks again for the comment :)

Nice to know that you have been here! I hope you had a wonderful time here. People are very friendly and innocent. Especially in the remote areas. I hope they took care of you.

I so want to visit this country. Actually, if I hadn't go to Kyrgyzstan this was the country I had in mind. The colors are incredibly rich and warm. Great post Ram.

I hope you visit soon Antonio. The country is very small and you can have such a drastic change in views within few hours of driving. As always, appreciate the comment :)
