California, USA, has relied on towers manned with people, many of whom are volunteers, who watch for fires. This has gone on since WW2 when they were watching for fire bomb dropping balloons, coming from Japan. This is one, on Banner Mountain in Nevada County, California, USA, it's been there for years. Went up today for a photo shoot, air quality was bad, but there was a plus, A Stellar Jay had a nest, right under the top step, under the trap door into the lookout. Igor was the resident volunteer lookout person, nice guy. Spent about 40 minutes taking some kind of crappy shots. This structure is about 90ft/ 30 m high. These are a few shots. cd
