Bird House

California, USA, has relied on towers manned with people, many of whom are volunteers, who watch for fires. This has gone on since WW2 when they were watching for fire bomb dropping balloons, coming from Japan. This is one, on Banner Mountain in Nevada County, California, USA, it's been there for years. Went up today for a photo shoot, air quality was bad, but there was a plus, A Stellar Jay had a nest, right under the top step, under the trap door into the lookout. Igor was the resident volunteer lookout person, nice guy. Spent about 40 minutes taking some kind of crappy shots. This structure is about 90ft/ 30 m high. These are a few shots. cd

Mom Bird , carefully watching !

Not a great shot, well you get the story, no food, no response

Sorry, Not the Mother Bird !!

Yes this is the top step !!!

90 ft/ 30m to the bird house, went up to shoot some sierra scenic shots

It's a great view from here about 4300 ft/ 1300m

You did get some great shots, just not what you expected! :) Glad you were able to get the baby birds without disturbing them! (Glad that Mom didn't try to disturb you either at that height.)

It's amazing that the nest is relatively undisturbed, considering the lookout people have to walk past it on the way in & out. Great job cd. The 3rd shot is incredible, great capture

I've always wanted to go up in one of these but never had access to them. We have a few around here too.

My legs woulda been KILLIN' me!! But those babies sure were cute. The momma bird probably thought she had those babies so safe and out of reach.

Wow, that was quite a climb! Glad you found the bird shots (which are great) even though the ones you were looking for didn't turn out. Got some good exercise, too ;)
