Los Angeles - 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the University of Southern California Sunday, January 21st, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. I had the unique opportunity to ride along with the number one rated comedy Golden Globe cast on ABC's Black-Ish stars, Kristy Meyers and Jeff Meacham. After and exclusive interview at their residence, it was time to get into the infamous "Black Suburban" that you see so often dropping off the actors as they onto the red carpet.
We drive from the exciting freeway traffic onto the streets of L.A., we are approaching hundreds of orange cones creating a narrow lane that leads into a vehicle inspection by the L.A.P.D. Officers then proceed to begin a thorough search around and inside the vehicles with special equipment to detect any signs of bombs, drugs or anyone attempting to sneak onto the premises.
Now the vehicles roll to a stop as the celebrity is escorted out onto the street at the designated drop off location at the entrance of the red carpet, where a groups and people of industry are waiting for their arrival.
When actors (talent) get out of their vehicles, they immediately start looking for their agents, managers, public relation representatives and/or people of industry before they enter the red carpet. As the evening continues vehicles arrive one by one as it get closer to showtime. Keep in mind that this area is closed off to photographers, paparazzi and media.
The energy level kicks up with excitement, as the actors start to arrive. CMT's Nashville and ABC's "FridayNight Lights" star Connie Britton, "Thelma and Louise"star Geena Davis and "My Cousin Vinny" star Marisa Tomei soon arrive and begin getting themselves prepared for the walk on the carpet.
For the next hour I was in the positioned myself to photograph each individual actor in their own element. Not an easy task, as they were walking in front, side and the back of me all at once.
Consumed by the flutter of all the faces I recognized from some of my favorite TV shows, movies and streaming performances were all around me. This was a moment that felt like the first time I went to Disneyland.
I had to switch my style of photographing to closer composed shots. I realized they were all around and I had to compose and photograph fast because everyone was talking, hugging and walking everywhere. So, you are now wondering how I got to this location!
The most important part of covering an event like this to be in a position to get the first photographs of a legendary actor and "The Lifetime Achievement" award recipient of the night. Morgan Freeman one of the prolific actors in the entertainment industry finally arrives at the entrance and is greeted by SAG members with tuxedo, bowtie and his signature cap. A true sign of uniqueness!
He was introduced to mainstream US audiences in the role "Frederick Zoller", a German war hero in Quentin Tarantino's 2009 film ,"Inglourious Basterds", german spanish actor born Daniel Bruhl takes a quick minute to meet and greet people on his way into the SAG Awards Red Carpet.
Kids and adults and entertainment professional alike were being recognized for their outstanding performances. Marsai Martin a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and SAG Award for Outstanding Performance By Assemble in a Comedy Series for her role in ABC's "Black-ish" has been a huge success for the show. Here is Marsai in a quick photo opt on her way to the SAG Red Carpet in her beautiful red dress.
Endless faces are still arriving and it's close to the show to start. Here, Reese Witherspoon arrives just in time in her emerald green dress by Zac Posen, heels by Jimmy Choo and her Tyler Allis handbag.
