History is full of dark tales of tortured souls and other satanic activities that took place in history, enough to run chills up your spine. In our grade school textbooks, history is glorified. These books praise the Kings, Queens, settlers, inventors, scientists, philosophers and other history makers, but no one or no text tells you about the men who helped make history as glorious as it is perceived.
In a tiny building in the "old town" section of downtown St. Augustine, Florida, there is the Medieval Torture Museum where visitors can view the different tools used by torturers in the past.
As you walk through each room and learn about the different techniques used on criminals, suspected witches, adulterers, and so on, there is ominous music playing with sound effects installed of men and women screaming in agony as they are tortured. It doesn't help in the least that it's dark. The whole thing feels like you're stuck in a horror film and at any moment one of the mannequins will come to life, drag you onto a rack, pull the heavy rope and allow the pendulum blade slice you in half.
