Actually she is Tartar, and lives in Ukraine, but to most people this is still “Russia”…

Agree with poshrat completely. Feel left out as to what the occasion was. But going by the comments, guess it didn't have the approval of Leah. But the portrait is quite interesting and there is nothing wrong if she was being prepared for a school play.

So many comments on the subject - and the ambiguity of it - but whatever one feels about why she is 'made up' they are both excellent photos and I have no doubt there is some cultural issues at work here, no?

I am not sure of the contxt of this so its difficult to comment - I find it a little disturbing. However the quality of the shot is superb especially the second one

I remember as a teenager putting makeup on my little sister around that age , my Dad went nuts at me, he was very protective regarding anything that might give us allergies etc to our skin. I'm not sure I like this either, probably for that old memory.
Nice portrait photo though.

What was the occasion of putting on make-up to this young girl, who looks like a porcelain doll by the way....

She's beautiful. When I first saw the portrait I was thinking of a beautiful china doll. What a precious princess she is!

I am sorry, but this looks a littly scary....or was this some kind of a theatre performance?

I had to come back after hearing your explanation. This is really sad and in my opinion is abuse that encourages sexual abuse of children. Notable that the mother doesn't seem to be dressed like this herself.

Oh well, with luck she'll grow out of her mother's foolishness.

What was the occasion? A play? I'm so opposed to things like beauty pageants for children that I reach for reasons one would do this. What could be more beautiful than a child WITHOUT makeup?
