What I Care About

by Chossid March. 08, 2014 129447 views

This is my community in Crimea. I am far from them now, having left when we were surrounded by foreign tanks and troops. But my heart is with them and I am very fearful for their safety! The situation worsens daily. We are trying to get funds for the desperately needed security systems and guards for 3 buildings. You can help us at the following link:

Yes, that's me between the girls.

Over the years, different young people have moved into our home, and become part of the family. A few years ago, one of my sons was visiting home, and hugged a young man who had grown up in our home. He said to my son “we're almost like brothers.” I felt so good when I heard my son reply “What do you mean ALMOST like brothers?! We ARE brothers!” My younger children know these “siblings” but the older ones don't, not having moved to Crimea with us. When we speak about them, they'll jokingly ask “oh – is that another of our sisters or brothers?” The girl to my right is like another daughter now…

Numbers 2 and 8 are really marvellous. Leah, please know that my thoughts are with you. I have been following all of this closely. My son lives in Moscow and it disturbs me greatly the kinds of half-truths and lies they are told there. Yet, am I surprised?? The first picture of you and ALL of your children makes me feel warm inside. I have many other kids besides my own as well. It has enriched my life the world over in ways for which one cannot give appropriate words. Peace and blessings to you and yours and I pray you can go back one day, safely.

There's so much love in this set, Leah, and so much sadness.

It is through pictures and blogs like these that we get to see the human side of troubles in the world....not what the main stream media decides we should see. We are keeping everyone in our prayers....

These are lovely pictures of what you care about the most, Leah. Familly is the most significant aspect of our lives. Thanks for sharing these! I see that these people in your pictures are Jewish as well as living in Crimea. This makes this double sad for them as with the Tatar people who have suffered ethnic cleansing and colonization from Russia. In 1944, Stalin deported the entire Crimean Tatar population in cattle cars, dumping them in Cental Asia under the pretext of supposed collaboration with Nazi Germany. About 225,000 deportees perished from hunger. This is an act of genocide. We are all concerned that history is going to repeat itself again in 2014. We can only pray for a peaceful resolution. Thanks for your post!

Dear Leah, my heart is with you and yours. I don´t have any words of comfort - this morning we learned, that Russian forces lay land mines in Ukraine (near Crimea). This is a preparation for civil war, and we fear what the next days will bring
