The Burnt House

The Burnt House is under the Old City of Yerushalayim, across from the location of the Beis HaMikdosh or Holy Temple. A fallen burnt beam of the ceiling has been dated back to 1 month after the Temple was destroyed, which exactly fits with history. This house belonged to a priest who ground incense for use in the Temple. His name is mentioned in the Talmud and was also found engraved on the pottery found here. There are mortars and pestles and many other artifacts… the tools of his trade. We also saw a re-enactment of this tragic episode in Jewish history.
