Hi!
I recently visited the Okavango Delta and the area neighboring the Makgadikgadi Pans, and here I share with you a few highlights from the trip!
Botswana contains many national parks, including the Moremi game reserve, Chobe national park, the Okavango Delta, the Salt Pans, and Victoria Falls. This country focuses on low volume, high end tourism to maintain the integrity of the natural environment. In addition, Botswana has made measures to protect their population of elephants (the overall number of elephants in Africa has been declining, mostly due to poaching). Botswana has completely banned the ivory trade. Moreover, they employ their own military to protect their animals from being hunted. They are allowed to shoot to kill any poacher who attempts to evade them.
I flew into the Okavango Delta by light aircraft. The pilot kindly flew low so that we could photograph the animals! Such an amazing flight over the delta.

A family of elephants foraging

A male elephant walking towards us (and later trumpeted) to tell us this is his territory!

A leopard looking out from a tree. Leopards like to rest high in the trees and look for potential meals on the ground.

Two male giraffes sparring

More to come!

Were you at Macatoo??
Ah no, sounds like a fantastic camp, but I was on the northern side of the Delta!
