Ballarò is the oldest food market of Palermo, frequented by hundreds of people and animated by the so-called "abbanniate", the boisterous calls of sellers who, with their characteristic and colorful local accent, try to attract the interest of passersby. It looks like a chaotic mass of crowded stalls, with the narrow old roads overrun with wooden boxes that contain foodstuffs sell at a good price. The Ballarò market takes its name from the Arabic Souk-el-Ballarak, the "mirror market" (intended as a way to attract people). I am sure that Ballarò will remain the same after the lockdown ends. And this is good and bad at the same time.
