The Great Gig In The Sky : Part I

by Anand Khandelwal March. 27, 2011 2240 views

These shots were taken in Karwar, Karnataka. Initially they were just a series of shots taken with different light settings. I came across this article about editing and how photographers have been caught with pictures they tampered with. They say colour correction, saturation and contrasts are generally where one draws the line. it seems to me that the only point which comes out of that argument is that the work that you come up with should be a reflection of what you saw as well as what you felt when you decided to capture a frame in time. But I wonder, how many would agree to that? I guess the case rests somewhere between using an instrument to capture an image, and using your editing skills to produce one.

PS : These were normal pictures with a tinge of purple and pink in the originals. I think I must have played around with the saturation or something.

But I think for me, this is Karwar.

Beautiful colours, and I agree, editing only enhances what you've already got as a shot. You can't make a poor image great just by editing it, you can just make a decent photo more noticable from afar :)

excellent shots, and a good point
if a photographer is trying to pass off his shots as real images then that should be where they draw the line, but as an art form there is no end of what can be done with a picture. With digital editting a photograph can say a million words, not just a thousand anymore. and my million will be different than anyone else's million with the same image

i absolutely agree with you. it's a phony discussion. we have to stop believing that pictures, no matter how "unedited" they are presented, never transport "the truth". they are just illustrations for what someone wants us to believe.
