The Great Escape - Derby Gaol

This is a monument opposite the Derby Gaol jail which reperesents the prisoners which escaped when a riot hit Derby in the 1700's. The locals broke in and released them and as most were awaiting execution had nothing to lose … There is a further head monument slightly up the street and separate from this one where a man leaving a local tavern was trampled to death in the escape.
