Locals picking pipi at the estuary during low tide. Altough I don't eat shellfish, I helped my friend picking some. Here's how you do it: you dig in the sand with your hand and grab what you find. If it's pipi, you must first check if it's big enough (for conservation reasons they pick only the adult ones); then, try and look for more in the same spot, as they live in “families”.
So there, that's how people spend the first hot spring day of the year: bent down, with a hand holding a bucket and the other in the water, while the kids are playing and jumping off the bridge into the fresh water of the estuary.
