It's a marmot, and that early morning it was sunning it's self on a majestic boulder, enjoying the view of it's kingdom. Or at least until I came along and sat on the trail next to the boulder for a snack. Then it was a game of peek-a-boo.
The King himself. Surveying his kingdom.
Sunrise over some 14,000 peaks above the Chicago Basin in SW Colorado.
The foreground is underexposed and I could have adjusted that in PS, but I didn't. Oh well, it's still a fantastic view at 11'000 feet or so.
This not so little guy would duck behind it's perch and then peek over to see if I was still there and then duck back down. After doing this a few times, it scolded me and then climbed back up on it's perch and gazed off into the distance, ignoring me until I left.
As a single photograph, it's not very inspiring and really very bland. But the view I shared with marmot, on an early July morning was endless and beyond what any picture could convey.
The sun was right in front of me as it was coming over the ridge. As a color photo, it was a reject. But as a B&W, it takes on a life of it's own
