Greece Day 9

Word of the day: WOW! We arrived Santorini at 6AM via an overnight ferry. Santorini is an island that 2000 years ago had a volcanic eruption which split the island and basically created a large lake (caldera) that is open to the sea. The interior of the caldera are steep cliffs. Perched on top are the towns. We arrived to fog that made the entire place seem like a dream. The traditional “cave house” is built into the cliffs. Our place is amazing… if only they had warm winters we would possibly have found our 2nd home!

The early morning fog inside the caldera.

We're in a traditional home dug into the side of the cliff… looking at the lower right side of the photo, below the pink flowers, our balcony has the two umbrellas.

On our balcony working on our tans.

We're staying in Oia, this church is on the town square.

Detail of another church.

A church at sunset.

Another… they're everywhere!

Detail, bells with the sea behind… something other than white is unusual.

Sunset tonight over Oia.
