Greece Day 11

by Jacki September. 30, 2007 801 views

Today I got up at sunrise and headed out to shoot some photos in the morning light. Later in the day we walked around to the sections of town that haven't been rebuilt from the 1950's earthquake. It's quite a change and very interesting… large areas of beautiful “ruins” that have some interspersed renovated areas. And of course it's impossible for me not to keep shooting the churches… whenever I see a dome against these blue skies, the camera go up! Tonight we took a bus to Fira, the capital. Glad we're not staying there! By contrast to our lovely little town, Fira is all about “glitz”… NOT on my list of recommended places to visit.

Sunrise… note the shadow of the cross from the first dome on the wall of the second church.

OK… I LOVE the churches!

The door to our house.

There's some beautiful jewelry but how they display it is almost as interesting.

A door from the abandoned area of town.

A quake damaged building on the right, next to a renovated building on the left.

A crazy woman inside one of the quake damaged buildings!

I don't even know what to say…!!!

Street shot of Fira… skip it if you visit Santorini.

Fira window display… I've never seen so much jewelry in one place… stores and stores of jewels… yuck!
