Mom's Childhood Town - Yampa

by Darlene Foster August. 16, 2010 2126 views

These are some of the buildings Mom remembers from her childhood in Yampa, Colorado. Some are quite delapidated as you can see.

There's lots of new houses and a new motel, for all the people coming up to this country, for all of the outdoor activities. Her parent's house and the old school have been torn down and even tough she knew that at one time, she didn't remember and it made her a little sad to see all of the changes. Such is life!

This one has been mantained fairly well and is the only place to buy groceries and other necessities.

Does this look like it's falling down?

She remembers this, but didn't frequent it, at least in her childhood!

Victorian house in town.

Mom worked in this building when it was the library.

This was the grocery store of choice many years ago. I can remember going in there for penny candy.

This place, I don't think Mom ever went to, but I could be wrong.

It is sad to see them tear down wonderful old historical buildings. But you got some great captures of what is left.

What great trip down memory lane. It's so different from where I live now, and where I grew up. And yes, that hotel DOES look like it's falling down! Is it a trick of the camera?

How nice that you could revisit these places with her now... I wanted to make a similar trip with my Mom, I wanted her to show me the place where she started out, got married and had me...but we never quite made it...now, one dayy, I will have to go alone, and won't know what I see...
