The Wild Animal Sanctuary 1 - The Tigers

by Darlene Foster April. 16, 2014 1997 views

There's a place out on the eastern plains of Colorado that is a wild animal sanctuary for animals that have been raised in captivity and then the owners have been unable to keep these wild animals for various reasons. Some have come from zoos, circuses, or wildlife exhibits that have been closed down. Some were in private homes. Can you believe that anyone would try to raise a tiger in their home? Well, they try apparently and then the animals end up at this sanctuary. The animals can never be released back into the wild, because they never learned how to hunt for themselves. Pretty sad, but this facility is doing the best it can for these animals. (And there are lots of them.) The animals are kept in smaller enclosures until they adjust to the other animals and their surroundings and then they are put into larger enclosures of several acres, in groups. The sanctuary has built a mile long walkway up above some of the compounds. They've also put in some pretty great looking pools and water features, unfortunately the animals were not playing in them when we were there.
More animals tomorrow!

I'm so glad there are good people in this world who love animals. These are beautiful tigers, Darlene.

Love #8, it shows cats are basically alike whether big or small, domestic or wild.

Dar, these are really impressive! Usually in zoo type setting animals look so bored, I'm thinking this says good things about where they are, even if they are there for not such great reasons.... people are pretty dumb when it comes to thinking they can keep wild life like this!
