Norfolk Island 5

Almost everything that comes on to the island arrives by ship. There is no wharf large enough to receive a ship, so everything is unloaded from the ships onto lighters - unpowered boats that are towed in to the wharf from where they are unloaded. It's quite and event on the island! There are always spectators. Horses, cars, even trucks are unloaded onto these lighters. This port is where the old whaling station was - you can see an old boiler in one of these photos.
