Pampas Grass

This one took me by surprise,

The sun was warm and I was just strolling across some land that used to be an open cast mining area.

The place was left almost like a moonscape but some of the area was seeded. Most of the planted trees are now coming on but suddenly there was this patch of brightness in the sun.

At first, I could only see the top of the grass and I did not know what it might be but getting closer I could see it Pampas Grass not sure how this native to southern South America, got to be here.

My understanding was that the planting was intended to be indigenous, but this looked beautiful in the autumn sun.

Nice shot.  It really is a beautiful grass.  We get it as a landscape plant here for some folks.
