India - the ghost city...

Fatephur Sikri was built as the capital of his empire by Moghul emperor Akbar in the 16th century but was abandoned after just 15 years - noone knows the reason.

As an aside, Akbar was a fascinating character; his views on religious tolerance for example are entightened by any standards and would shame the religious fanatics and bigots who seem to proliferate today.

While you may think history “is more or less bunk” people like Akbar put the lie to that and if we choose to ignore the lessons from the past, who is the fool then?

A great place for playing hide-and-seek…

The only permanent residents now are the parakeets…

It must feel so strange to walk through all these deserted places...unless it's overcrowded with tourists :)
      Beautiful architecture.
      I like #3, #6 and #7 the most ( they are truly masterpieces ).
Anyway, I'm going to save ALL pics starting with day 1 in a folder instead of choosing only some for the "favorites"...It will make a great album.
