Wadi Rum and a night under the stars...

I'll leave the remaining Petr pics for another time and move on to Wadi Rum - made famous in the West by Lawrence of Arabia - it was his base when he joined Faisal in the Arab Revolt in WW1.

Again it was blisteringly hot but you kind of forget the pure heat when you are bumping along over the desert in the back of a Toyota pick-up - because then it feels like you are in the face of a massive hair dryer set to “hot”!

We stayed overnight at a campsite in the valley but rather than remain in or around the central tent I took myself off up a sand dune about 200m away - it's quite an experience lying there on a simple mat on the sand, silently under the stars with just the moonlight to see by - and the last pic isn't a fake - that's just stars and moonlight at around midnight in the middle of the desert :-)

Needless to say, but I will, enlarged is better!

The ubiquitous Toyota Hilux…. vehicle of choice in the valley

Sheer cliff faces…

And ancient carvings made by Bedouin tribes over the centuries…

Inhabitants more comfortable with the heat…

Weird rock formations…

Camels wandering….

Getting near the camp site now…

The dune I chose for my bed :-)

Midnight, looking along the valley…

I like them all. the photo of the night, however, is far more beautiful than millions of pictures :-)
