Religious re-use...

Why build when you can re-use….?

This notion seems to go back quite a while. This is the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque in Famagusta. Originally it was the Saint Nicolas Cathedral, built in the 14th century. But when the Ottoman Empire captured the city in 1571 it was converted into a mosque and remains so to this day.

Actually, Christians have been doing this for hundreds, nay thousands (almost) of years; it's called syncretism.

And don't worry about the enlarging problem with these great shots - your secret's safe with me.

Hmm.. This is interesting. Never heard of a cathedral converted into a mosque. And this place is still full of the cathedral's atmosphere though. Nice shots. Thanks for sharing.
