NRT Day 5 - Bamburgh

by David Swatton May. 08, 2011 4046 views

Continuing my Northern Road Trip pictures…

One of my very favourite English castles, not least for its location, is Bamburgh in Northumberland. It is very complete due to a major restoration when it was bought by a Victorian industrialist as his private home!

For me though, the best thing is the view of the castle perched on its hilltop when viewed walking along the beach… it's just magical.

Can you get any more English than a game of cricket played beneath the ramparts of a medieval castle? :-)

I think that ANYthing viewed while walking along the beach is better than most anything else! And I do love that blue look of the beach edge after a wave has receded and just before the water completely goes away.

Terribly English indeed! The vaulted ceiling and all the wood work in No 6 is just spectacular!
