10 years on...

The first time I visited NYC was Jan 2000 when I took this rather poor quality picture with an old film camera that I had at the time. The temperature was minus stupid and there had been a snow storm the night before but I took a trip on the Hudson on a boat and was about the only one idiotic enough to stand outside taking pictures in the bitter cold and I immediately fell in love with the twin towers of the World Trade Centre. Indeed, when I had the chance to return to the city the following year I made straight for them for another visit.

That was in September 2001. I was at the top of the tower where the observation deck was just a few days before the attack. So you can imagine how weird and frankly unreal it seemed when I heard the news of the attack a few days later when I was back in London.

I don't think today is a time for critiquing our so-called leaders and the political, military and social legacy of 9/11… I think perhaps that today is just a time to remember and to reflect.

PS Thanks for all the kind comments for my FP pic a couple of days ago.

There's a lovely nostalgia to this image - as jet28 says, something about the quality of film too. It's a lovely gesture to all those who lost so many loved ones.

There's something different about photos on film - love the warmth.

That's quite a photo you have and quite a story to go with it. I can imagine it would be very surreal to have just been there days before the attack.
