Relics of a discarded legacy...

In the car park at the back of the national art gallery in Tirana there is a “dumping ground” for the communist icons of the past. The locals are doing a thorough job of eradicating the evidence of their recent past… although removing the 350,000+ concrete bunkers littering the countryside is a somewhat bigger job.

Sorry, can't resist this…. there was an American in our small group who asked loudly, “So, who's the big guy in the middle anyway?”

Cue the awkward looks and sniggering all round :-)

Great shot. I don't know how I feel about this. Every time I look around some group is trying to erase evidence of their histories. It was what it was. I'm starting to get a little bit agitated just thinking about it. I better go find a phallic symbol to photograph.
