i'm always amazed on the detail and effect these old scultures of art have, after they are renovated and the patina is scraped of and they lost this honorfying, alienating age strangeness of being withered away... and i'm always equally suspicious how much of the renovation is the fantasy of the (modern) renovator. but in general, i think its a good idea to take care of these things, and interpetation of the old to make it meaningful for the new is a necessity for progress. :-)

I think it (the new) looks terribly out of place quite comical and I am afraid Stefan is right he does look like Ed Miliband

A Good Morning Britain make-over adaptation of a Medieval theme. Not sure which one I want pissing on me. The newer one bears a passing resemblance to your deputy prime minister (*) and so remains faithful to the tradition of portraying notables at the time.

(*) and the leader of the opposition and, come to think of it, the current PM. Hmmm.
