Down a dark alley where nobody goes...

This is the old entrance to the White Hart pub seen from what was formerly known as George Yard and one of the most dangerous thoroughfares in the area.

George Chapman, at the time one of the leading Ripper suspects, worked in the basement of the White Hart. Fifty yards behind where I took this picture the body of Martha Tabram, sometimes proposed as another of the Ripper's victims, was found in 1888.
