Art Power in Washington, DC
Meghan Malik graduated from Howard University and loves DC, but she says this DC – with buildings and store fronts protected by plywood in the wake of last week’s riots – is not the DC she knows. “It looks like a war zone.” Meghan is event director with Design Foundry, and she’s heading up a beautification project.
“Since they’re no events, this is a great project, and helps support this important movement.” There are 27 murals all over the city, each with unique flair featuring the work of local artists.
The project is a partnership between the DowntownDC Business Improvement District, the PAINTS Institute, and the Denver Smith Foundation.
The Foundation was founded in commemoration of Denver Smith who was murdered in 1972 at Southern University in Louisiana by a sheriff in an unexplainable act of law enforcement aggression.
