Wall of Resistance

Street Art in NYC

On an ordinary walk in Chelsea, I bumped into a pair of street artists finishing up the day’s work on 22nd Street. @soulthundre and @consumerart have been here before – there are several of their pieces displayed, including a self-portrait.

(@ConsumerArt) “In time pieces get ripped, work gets covered up and gets covered over organically so it’s always tough to find a new space to put new work here, but it is an iconic wall to hit. So, I just got one of my pieces up and my friend did too and also our collab.”

(@SoulThundre) “His is more street art and my pieces are more like if I could paint, that’s what they’d be, so I use a lot of old romanticism and surrealist paintings and stuff to create the pieces.

I modified one with the face masks after Covid. It was about people being really close but far apart, like in relationships – are you being held up, or held back by your partner, and now it means something different because now we can only help each other literally by being apart.”

Great story. A lot of patience on their parts.
