Last Thursday I told myself that I was going to go out Friday and shoot. That was an easy decision. The question was where? I mean (and I’ve said this many of times) Manassas just don’t have anything appealing to me. I really didn’t want to drive around “just because” and end up with nothing.
Finally early Friday morning I kinda thought of a place - still wasn’t sure. When driving out into Virginia towards Front Royal, The Plains, Winchester there are a lot of back roads. Back roads are one lane roads that are sometimes still lumpy and bumpy but can have character along the way…and also bring back memories. I remembered growing up we use to drive to Front Royal on Rt 340. I have not taken 340 to Front Royal in forever - yes a very, very, long time. That’s what I did! And when you don’t know what you’re still going to shoot you pack EVERYTHING. That’s the fun of driving - you can fill the back with all your gear and see what happens.
What. Great. Memories. As I drove through White Post, VA seeing the white post in the middle of the road was priceless. Thats what make small towns precious - updating here and there but trying to keep the town “as is”. As I was driving and remembering it was also sad seeing what was no more: abandoned homes and closed-up Mom & Pops businesses which is happening everyday.
I’m glad I had a problem trying to figure out where and what I could photograph. Maybe it slowed me down from jumping so fast. Maybe I know things are changing from the places I knew of/visited when growing up and I need to get back to. I don’t know. But I am looking for my next adventure. ❤️❤️
