Feeding Our Children and Others

As I was attending one of the many festivals that are held in Manassas, VA I met Sharita Rouse, owner of Tummy Yum Yum Gourmet Candy Apples. The apples were SO-SO GOOD!!

One Saturday in March as this COVID-19 was beginning to change all our lives, I decided to walk around downtown Manassas to document/photograph for my own personal history and that’s when I noticed Tummy Yum Yum Gourmet Apples was opened. YES the apples are still SO-SO GOOD!! What I learned that day was how Tummy Yum Yum Gourmet Apples were feeding the children.

Since the schools in Virginia have been closed, there are many of children that depend on the school system for food. There’s no easy way to put it - many of children depend on the school systems for food. We all have heard this statement before “it takes a village” and Sharita Rouse truly believes that. Sharita has been feeding the children since the closing of the schools. She has volunteers that pack lunches for families and some that deliver to families. A local sheriff has permission from his police department to deliver food while he’s duty. Restaurants also help in providing cooked meals. How important are these meals? This lunch may be the only meal for some families the entire day.

Not only does Tummy Yum Yum Gourmet Apples help the children, they’re also feed the homeless or anyone that needs a meal. No justification of why you need a meal. If you’re hungry you will be fed.

*** Some of the photographs without masks was before Virginia finalized their policies.***
