Hundreds of years ago Zhenyuan 镇远 used to be a major transportation hub on the trade routes connecting Hunan and Guangdong/Guangxi with Yunnan and Southeast Asia. Today it is a sleepy tourist town and as a matter of fact, is not the transportation hub it used to be. To get anywhere from Zhenyuan, you have to take a train or bus to Guiyang and then transfer.
