MEMORABLE MAGGIE VALLEY

Over 40 years ago, Larry and I stopped to play this golf course on our way between Norfolk, VA and Coronado, CA where Larry was preparing for Vietnam. We've always wanted to play Maggie Valley again, but never came back this way - until today!

We only had one specific day when we could play the course - and there was a scheduled tournament for a local rescue squad. So…we entered the tourney! Needless to say, we were the only players who had come 800 miles to enter their event - so they treated us royally!

Larry and I shot an 8-under par (64) and I won the long drive for the tournament, so we came away with money and wonderful memories!

Thanks, Rodney and all the folks from the Haywood County Rescue Squad for a fantastic time and a day we'll never forget!

Our opening hole on a clear and cool morning in North Carolina, with the Smoky Mountains in the background!

The front 9 holes made up the “Valley Course” that ran along some pretty streams and ponds

This is the “pine straw” (needles) under the tree above

The back nine holes were the “Mountain Course” and they headed into the hills!

One of the sweet tournament workers volunteered to take our photo

Needless to say, I took more shots with my camera than I did with my clubs! It was a “postcard” in every direction!

Larry, me and Rodney Rogers, the event coordinator and a local rescue team member

The Smokey Mountains really are beautiful and your photos really capture the fact that they were in full color swing... and so were your clubs apparently ... in full swing that is! :-))

Beautiful post. What a great time to visit. And what great golfers you two are. Congratulations. I had hope to get to the Smokeys for the Fall foliage, but no concrete plans yet.
