GORILLAS in the MIST

by Brenda Nelson September. 10, 2012 4981 views

Friday at the St. Louis Zoo, we found this compound of gorillas, which have always been fascinating to us. The area contained a family of lowland gorillas (silverbacks) and only one mountain gorilla (the “Great Ape”) that we could see.

Dad seemed upset, so the family moved away!

Then we walked around the corner and there sat a huge male Mountain Gorilla right on the other side of the glass, about a foot away!

The humanity in his expression stirred me - there was such sadness in his eyes.

This “Great Ape” was so magnificent, I could have sat and stared at him all day!

Wow! Great photos! It is sad that they are confined, but the young learn so much from seeing them and adults too!

Always so sad to see them confined. I'm sure they ARE as sad as they look to be, confined as they are and being such intelligent creatures. 8^(
