"HAND ME DOWN MY WALKIN' CANE"

(Jerry Lee Lewis' version of Porter Waggoner's “Hand Me Down My Walkin' Cane” [bing.com].)

When I saw my friend Eric's post [photoblog.com] of his beautifully carved walking sticks, I thought about posting ours - which are really useful on our Arkansas hills!

Mine is the one at the top made of persimmon and Larry's is the other one from hickory wood

A stack of these at Silver Dollar City are quite plain after seeing Eric's. He needs to move down here and make a fortune selling his!

A rasp for smoothing out the grain in the wood and shaping it

What a good idea - a compass in the top of the stick! (I should have cleaned it before taking its portrait!)

These are the tops of our sticks with the medallions from some of our trips. We have others that haven't been added because persimmon and hickory are such HARD woods!

Wow, I'm honored, I looked at the medallions at some sight online, there's a few from the parks in Minnesota that I have seen that I could buy. Think they were $3.75 and they have them from all over.

Beautiful walking sticks that look like they've been to beautiful places. This is a nice tribute to Eric too!

Beautiful... are the metal things something you can buy at the various parks? I've never seen them. JR has one made by the Native American's in the Palm Springs area... and I have one that I made from a birch limb in our northern Michigan forest!
