KEY WEST ROAD TRIP - Days 1 & 2

by Brenda Nelson February. 20, 2013 3757 views

We left for Key West, Florida at noon on Tuesday when the temperatures finally reached 40 degrees! I have no idea what the wind chill was at 60 miles per hour!! We rode 5.5 hours the first day, then 9 hours on Wednesday, and arrived in Pensacola, FL at dark. We're half-way to our destination - but no problems and a very smooth ride. We've worn so many layers of clothes that we can hardly bend our arms and knees, but we've needed every piece of it! Tomorrow we should begin to reach much warmer weather, which will be a blessing! It has honestly been too cold to remove my 2 pairs of gloves to even attempt a photo!

Loaded and leaving home on a frigid Tuesday, trying to beat the ice storm across our area of the country. You can see that Larry's breath has fogged his face guard!

On a cloudy and windy Wednesday, we crossed the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, MS, where over 100,000 troups during the US Civil War fought for control of the river

I had on 2 full-face masks under a lined helmet with 2 face shields, plus 5 layers on my bottom, 6 on the top, and boots for minus-five degrees - and they were all barely enough!

This is the famous “Carnival Triumph”, the cruise ship that had to be towed into port in Mobile, Alabama after losing power and stranding its passengers for days!

A self-portrait taken into my face guard that reflects the Florida countryside.

Number 6 is a big cloud bird :-)
That is one huge bike! But I want to know where in the world you are going to put that other bag that is still sitting on the ground!!! How much overhead can you take on that bike, Brenda??? Looks like more than on my flight to Virginia!
