Sunset scenes around the Mill & Harbor

by Jay Boggess November. 13, 2020 306 views

We have a paper mill at one end of the harbor, located on a thin strip of land (Ediz Hook) separating the inner harbor from the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I like to go out on the Ediz Hook, almost every morning & evening to watch the rising & setting of the Sun. This evening was an especially colorful Sun setting behind the Olympic Mountains, that run east & west, just behind our little town of (Port Angeles, WA)

A good friend lives near Bellingham. I just realised we went to Port Angeles (10 years back or so). It was February, I remeber being cold and wet. Then drove from WA to Calgary, all I remember was being cold and driving on ice roads, but the trip was awesome. I had a week to kill and a good rental car, went from Bellingham back to Seattle, then Spokane, saw another friend in Boise, then up to Butte in Montanna (i am a mining guy so I had to) then over and up to Calgary. What a magnificent part of North America, the best memories were how friendy people were, one of my favourite travel experiences! Somewhere in my 38,000 images I have just got on one hard drive are some of the photos, I will publish soon! My wife was in Australia (I was there for work), I can remember her saying "so we have an Aussie, who is a petrol head, who has a V8 Mustang from Hertz, it is winter and Alberta is frozen, what could possibly go wrong.....". Well when a week later I was still alive, had not crashed the car or been eaten by a bear (another story) she was happy! And I had had the road trip of my life (well one of them). But it was the way that people were so friendly to this little old Australian... That was comman in all of the USA, North, South, North East, people were so nice. Another dear friend lives in Dickinson, Texas. Same there. I had certain thoughts about what Texans would be like, like all pre conceived ideas of people and places I was so wrong! I still say to Arvin (in Texas) "do you spend your whole life doing kind things for people? God I love the USA! Been about 7 years since I have been there, but soon I hope, soon...

Well, if you ever get back up to the Olympic Peninsula of Washington/Port Angeles, let me know!
I'd love to meet you! I hope all these travel bans go away sooner, rather than later, because I love to travel, as well!

You live in a wonderful place. Mountains, sea, boats, sunsets and sunrises. Enjoy my friend

It is a pretty special place. I feel so fortunate to be here, at this time of my life. The only thing I'm missing is being close to my kids in Texas. I'm trying to figure out a good compromise, where I can split my time between here & Texas, if I can afford to have two places......
Hope your getting back to 100%, health wise!
Salud!
Always a pleasure, hearing from you!
I look forward to your fine creative images! (both of you)!

Thank you, Sir!
We have been having some pretty colorful sun rises & settings, lately!
My camera gets me out of bed almost every morning in time to go out to see the sunrise and then again, when he's setting. The light always puts a touch of magic on most every thing, during those brief moments.....no???

ps...thanks for "liking" the images, as well!

you are welcome for the likes of the images!  We have been getting some decent sunsets recently too.  I will post a few in the next couple of days.  Will endeavour to get up to capture a sunrise or two;)  The light is amazing at both sunrise and sunset:)  By the way, I am not a Sir, I am the other gender LOL

no offence taken as to gender misidentification;)  I will get those photos I mentioned posted asap and some others.  It has been awhile since I have  posted on this site, time to get back in the game again.  Went through a dry spell with photography this past year, not much done at all.  I guess that is the equivalent to writers block?  The dry spell seems to be over  and am grateful for that as I have missed photography.  Love being out and about with camera in hand:)

Glad you were not offended!
Glad too hear your coming out of your "dry spell! I will be looking forward to your new offerings!
I take lots of pictures almost every day, as a form of practice & experimentation. Luckily, with the digital cameras, we don't have to worry about having to keep buying tons of film & then processing the film, only to find out our settings were inappropriate.....right?smile
Getting out & about with the camera is one of my favorite parts of photography, as well!
I can't stand being cooped up inside...........
Happy Holidaze!

not offended at all!  I have been taking a few photos every day lately.  Got some very dramatic photos here today.  There were periods of cloud and sun breaking through all day.  The clouds were something else, very dark and threatening: they were great subjects.   I am glad for digital cameras, no film anymore.  I do not recall how many pictures came back from processing blank!  I was a real newbie then.  Unlike now, there were few resources to get help learning 35mm photography around where I live.  There are so many resources available online these days and am taking advantage of them!
Happy Holidaze, eh?  well, I am assuming you mean American Thanksgiving?  Well, I am Canadian and we had our Thanksgiving last month;)

I figured you had no idea I'm Canadian, though if you were to hear my pronunciation of 'ou' and 'ow' sounds you'd know immediately LOL   It's harder to determine a Canadian nationality in writing I think: there are some clues in spelling of some words like labour, favour though!
    I'll take Merry Christmas!  lol

you're very welcome for the lesson;)  Am staying safe, wearing my mask in public places as required: masks are mandatory here in this province.
Thank you for the Merry Christmas wish:)  You are the first person to do so by the way;)
I'm sure you're gearing up for your Thanksgiving holiday which is coming up soon.  Alas, I can't remember if it's the third Thursday in November or the last Thursday of this month.  Whichever Thursday it is, have a great holiday!!
Have posted a few photos, will post more in the coming days/weeks.
