Freedom Square, Tallinn

The journey begins where the heart is, that being the centre of the city. A short walk from the hotel to the centre in the cold sunny weather was fantastic, although we got lost several times trying to figure out which road we have to cross and which street we have to go through, but that is usual when I'm the one navigating the map.

Eventually, in front of us we see this beautiful yellow church with tall facades and a pointy tower. Immediately I recognised the church from my extensive research on Google maps as St. John's. Therefore, with just a matter of time I was expecting to see the decorations from Freedom's Day celebrations held the weekend before, commemorating the people who gave their lives for Estonia's independence. Unfortunately, the decorations and celebrations were finished so we missed them, however the square was astounding. The memorial cross just opposite St.John's church, with all its glass blocks and fascinating atmosphere was beautiful. Next to the memorial was a glass stand describing the reason for the square, whilst remembering all the patriots that sacrificed their lives for their country's freedom.
