New skiing tradition

This winter, we started a new tradition. With our dog Kalzi unable to join us for ski excursions in the mountains due to health problems, we had to come up with something closer to home so she wouldn't have to be locked inside too long. We decided on a late afternoon ski along the frozen lake for a beer at the local hotel bar. It made for a pleasant 5 mile round trip outing with beautiful views. So it became our afternoon routine.

Unfortunately, on our first outing, Shad broke his ski crossing a snow gully where a stream ran into the lake.

Only lasted 25 years.....

Only lasted 25 years.....

Fortunately, it was within yards of the bar! We were also lucky enough to be able to track down the lone part-time taxi guy so we didn't have to walk home in ski boots.

Shad bought new skis, and within a week, we were back on the lake! I think the bar tender got a kick out of the two old people showing up at the back entrance on skis. Shad was known as the "broken ski guy."

Our other outings were just as special.

We look forward to continuing this tradition next winter.

Firstly, best doggie health wishes and ear scratches to Kalzi. But -- ah! -- that looks like wonderful fun (and work!). It's been many years since I cross-country skied but I still remember how much I enjoyed it!

Thanks Cheryl!  The peace and tranquility on the lake is amazing. We loved each outing!
